Giving Tuesday 2024

On this #GivingTuesday, Friends of the Lott House is looking to raise $1,720, representing the year Johannes H. Lott built the original salt-box style farmhouse.

A rare survivor of Brooklyn’s rural past, the Lott House has been home to the eight generations of Lotts, from 1719 to 1989, Today, the Lott House is a testament to Brooklyn’s diverse history, as scores of women and men, immigrant and native-born, enslaved and free, resided in one of the earliest established Dutch settlements in New York City.

The Friends of the Lott House are dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of the Lott family, their farm, and the larger community of enslaved, immigrant, and native-born workers in Brooklyn over the last three centuries. In early 2026, the Lott House will undergo a long-awaited Interior Capital Project, receiving necessary structural, stabilization, and electrical updates that will allow us to open the house  to the public as a museum!

One of our priorities is cataloging and packing the Lott House’s nearly 1,000-piece collection to be moved off-site for the duration of the interior project. The collection contains hundreds of photographs and paintings, furniture, farm tools used by the family in the 19th and 20th centuries, custom-made clothing from Ella Suydam’s estate, and more!

Your gift will go directly toward cataloging, digitizing, and preserving our collection. It will also ensure the safety of some of our most delicate pieces, preserving their integrity for years to come.

With any donation of $250 or more, you will receive a personal guided hard-hat tour of the interior of the Lott House, giving you an up-close sneak peek of the work currently being done inside the historic farmhouse!

Donate today to help preserve a piece of Brooklyn’s history!
